Mike Jeffries, the former head of Abercrombie & Fitch, was arrested on federal sex trafficking allegations.

Mike Jeffries, the former CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch, his lover, and a third man were detained on Tuesday on suspicion of enticing men into drug-filled, outrageous, and coercive sex parties by offering them the chance to appear in the retailer’s iconic beefcake advertisements.

Details on Mike Jeffries

According to a federal indictment, Jeffries, his partner Matthew Smith, and their employee James Jacobson exploited Jeffries’ income, status, and network of domestic workers to satisfy the couple’s sexual fantasies and conceal everything for nearly two decades.

The charges are in line with allegations of sexual misconduct that have been aired in the media and in a civil action in recent years. Mike Jeffries “vehemently denies” those claims, according to his attorneys in a federal sex trafficking case.

After being freed on a $10 million bond, Jeffries departed a federal courthouse in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Tuesday, grinning widely but remaining silent. Brian Bieber, his lawyer, too remained silent.

Prosecutors expressed concern that Smith, a dual U.S.-British citizen, may leave the country, so they ordered his detention.

In an email, Bieber and his attorneys, David Raben and Joseph Nascimento, stated that they would address the accusations in court “when appropriate.”

When Jacobson appeared in court in St. Paul, Minnesota, he only said, “I understand what they claim,” and he left the courthouse on $500,000 bond without commenting on the accusations.

Jacobson has previously stated that he was not involved in or aware of any coercive, dishonest, or violent activity. His lawyer received messages asking for feedback.

The three defendants are accused of interstate prostitution and sex trafficking with 15 unidentified accusers.

Although the cases’ statuses and key elements of the accusations vary, this is the most recent sex offense prosecution of a well-known and affluent individual accused of abusing his position as a celebrity or potential star-maker, ranging from Harvey Weinstein to Sean “Diddy” Combs.
