Hope Woodard, a 27-year-old comedian and content producer from New York City, had no idea that her public declaration of her intention to abstain from dating and sex for a year would become a viral phenomenon.

Woodard claims that after years of fruitless attempts to pursue love through dating apps, she realized something needed to change when visiting her sick grandmother in Tennessee. I was texting this guy I was kind of fascinated with when I was hanging out with my grandmother, but he didn’t give a damn about me and was simply ignoring me.

Hope Woodard, who is the youngest in her family, claims that the interactions she witnessed as a child undoubtedly influenced her views as she grew older.

Hope Woodard, who reveals that a year-long hiatus from alcohol altered her life. “It was the first time I felt like I really got to know myself and I was like, ‘I think I need to do something similar with men and sex,'” she says.

“I started talking about it on TikTok after the conversation with my sister, using that language, using the word ‘boysober,'” she claims. “The culture was already so ready for a word like that because so many women were already not having sex, so many women were sick of dating, dating apps and just men in general.”

Nevertheless, the self-described “elder Gen Z” admits that she was taken aback by how significant things had become.

When she was younger, she really heeded that advise, and a few months after pushing pause, she eventually met her spouse.

According to Leadingham, being “boysober” is in line with contemporary dating trends, which emphasize intentionality in the relationships that single people choose to pursue.

Regarding putting the trend into practice in real life, Leadingham claims that she counsels her customers to cut back on social media and dating apps in an effort to start again.
